Lesson 61 Amplified – DUNAMIS

 DUNAMIS -- DUNAMEIS

American singular: force, power -- plural: forces, powers, or works of power 

DUNATOS

American: forceful, powerful 

The literal translation of dunamis is force, but American usage would be power. 

Almost Greek [Words in italics are translator’s additions.] 

1st Thessalonians 1.5: … Our euaggelion [good news, gospel, evangel] came to you not only in logos [word] but also in dunamis and in the Hagios [Holy, Sacred, Consecrated] Pneuma [Wind, Breath, Spirit] and in much assurance. 

2nd Thessalonians 1.5: A clear indication of the dikaios [equitable, just, right] kriseths [decision, judgment rendered, verdict] of Theos is for you to be deemed entirely deserving of the Kingdom of Theos (for which, indeed, you suffer); since it’s a dikaios act from beside Theos to requite to those squeezing you, stress, and to you (those being squeezed) rest, with us, at the revelation of our Kurios Jesus from ouranos [the sky, the heavens] with aggeloi [messengers, angels] of His dunamis in flaming fire, giving full ekdikesin [retribution] to those not knowing Theos and to those not heeding the euaggelion of our Kurios Jesus, the Christos [Anointed One, Messiah, Christ]. They will pay the penalty (eternal death away from the face of the Kurios and away from the glory of His might), when He comes to be glorified in His hagioi [holy ones, sacred ones, consecrated ones, saints] and to be admired in all those pisteuousin [putting their faith in] Jesus, in that Day. 

1st Corinthians 1.18: For the logos of the cross is indeed foolishness to those perishing but to us sozomenois [being made safe, being saved], it is the dunamis of Theos. 

1st Corinthians 1.22: Jews ask for a semeion [sign, indication] and Greeks seek wisdom but we kerussouen [herald, proclaim] the Christou having been crucified. To Judaeans He is a skandalon [stumbling block, snare, scandal] and to Greeks He is foolishness but to the invited ones (both to Jews and to Greeks [all non-Jews]) the Christon is the dunamin and the wisdom of Theos. For the stupid one of Theos is wiser than men and the weak one of Theos is stronger than men. 

1st Corinthians 2.4: My logos and my kerugma were not in persuasive man wisdom logoi; conversely, in manifestation of the Hagios Pneuma and in dunameos in order that your pistis [reliance upon, faith] not be in the wisdom of men but in the dunamei of Theos. 

1st Corinthians 4.18: While I wasn’t expected to be coming toward you now, some were puffed up. But shortly I will come to you (if the Kurios thelese [determines, chooses, decides, decrees]) and I won’t know the logos of those having been puffed up, conversely, the [their] dunamei. For the Kingdom of Theos not consists in logos; conversely, in dunamei. What do you want? that I come to you with a stick or in agape and a pneuma of gentleness? 


1st Corinthians 15.20: But now, the Christos has been awakened from dead. He was caused to be a beginning of sacrifice [the “first fruits”] of those having been put to sleep for since death is via a man [Adam] and via a Man [Jesus] anastasis [a standing up again, resurrection] of the dead. For as in Adam the whole human race dies, so also, in the Christo all will be made alive but each in his own order [turn]. First the beginning of the sacrifice (the Christos), then comes the telos [the point aimed at, the end of this age], when He surrenders the kingdom to Theos (also the Father); when He [Jesus] katargese [renders entirely idle; renders useless] all commencement [rank], all privilege [authority] and all dunamin. It is right for Him to reign until He [Father] wishes to place all the hateful under His [Jesus’] feet. The last hateful one katargeitai [rendered entirely idle; rendered useless] is Death for He [Father] subordinated all under His [Jesus’] feet.

Lesson 59 Amplified – NOUS

 NOUS 

American: intellect, mind, understanding 

That our minds are actively working from our awakening to our falling asleep is clear. In fact, dreaming tells us that the mind is working even as we sleep. At times it seems that we open our minds to the input of the devil. Do our judgmental thoughts come from there? We should guard our minds from such. We should only entertain beautiful and constructive thoughts. At least we should try.

2nd Thessalonians 2: Brothers! we ask you over the coming of our Kurios Jesus, the Christos [Anointed One, Messiah, Christ], and our gathering together to Him, not to waver in the nous; not to be frightened neither via pneuma [wind, breath, spirit] nor via logos [word] nor via letter (as if from me) as if the Day of the Christos is come. Let not even one person deceive you not (in no way) because unless the apostasia [defection from the truth, apostasy] comes first and the man of hamartia [misses of the mark or goal, error, offense, sin] is revealed (the son of destruction, he who is opposite to Theos and is exalting himself over everything relating to Theos or object of worship), to sit down in the Temple of Theos, as if Theos (showing that he himself is a theos), the Day of the Christos hasn’t come.

 

1st Corinthians 1.10: Brothers! I now parakalo [call near, invite, urge, exhort, encourage] you (via the name of our Kuriou Jesus, the Christou) that you all say the same logos and there not be in you, schismai [splits, divisions, schisms] but that you be united in the same nous and opinion. 

1st Corinthians 4.6: Now, these words, brothers, I applied to myself and Apollos (via [for] you) in order that (in us) you may learn not to exercise the nous above what has been written in order that not one of you is puffed up over [above] the other one. For who thoroughly separates? What have you that you haven’t received? If you received, why boast as if not receiving? You are already crammed. You have already become rich. 

1st Corinthians 14.13: Therefore, let him, speaking in a glosse [tongue, language], proseuchestho [humbly beg God, pray] in order that he may be able to dierueneue [thoroughly explain, interpret]. For if I proseuchomai in a glosse, my pneumati proseuchomai but my nous is empty. Then, what is to be? I will proseuchomai with the [my] pneumati and I will also proseuchomai with the [my] nous. I sing with the [my] pneumati and I also sing with the [my] nous. If you eulogeses [speak well of, praise, bless] in the pneumati, how will the one occupying the position of the idiotes [know-nothing, ignoramus] say the “Amen” to your eucharistia [gratefully giving thanks], since he not knows what you say? Indeed, you echaristeis well but the other isn’t built up. I echaristo to my Theos for I speak in glossais more than all of you. Conversely, in an ekklesia, I determine rather to speak five logoi with my nous in order that I may also instruct others than murioi [10,000; innumerable, myriads] of logoi in glosse. Brothers! not be children in the nous but be like infants in kakia [worthlessness] and be complete [mature] in the nous. 

Romans 1.28: Just as they did not see fit to acknowledge Theos any longer, Theos surrendered them to their unapproved nous to do the improper, having been made full of the whole of injustice, porneia [whoring, incest, non-marital sexual intercourse], greed, kakia [worthlessness]; full of decay, killing, quarrels, deceit, kakoetheia [bad character], whispering slanderers, haters of Theos; insolent, arrogant, braggarts, inventors of kakion, defiant to parents, undiscerning, covenant breakers, astorge [without love for one’s family], truce breakers and merciless. 

Romans 12.3: For via the charitos [graciousness] given to me, I say to everyone, being in yourself, not to esteem yourself too much, exercising the nous [philosophizing] beyond what is necessary. Conversely, exercise the nous into being sound as Theos has apportioned to each a measure of pisteos. 

Titus 1.15: In fact, to the clean, all is clean but to those having been defiled and apeitheis [unpersuadable], not even one thing is clean but has been defiled by them, even their nous and their conscience.

Lesson 58 Amplified – KERUSSO

 KERUSSO

American: to herald, to proclaim 

KERUGMA

American: a proclamation 

These words appear frequently in the New Blood Covenant. A few years ago, a firm was launched under the name “Kerusso” that sells clothing emblazoned with Christian words and symbols. You may access their site at www.kerusso.com.

1st Corinthians 1.20: Where is the wise? Where is the grammateus [writer, recorder, scribe, secretary]? Where is the sophos [disputer, sophist] of this age? Didn't Theos make the wisdom of this kosmou [universe, world, cosmos] foolish? For since (in the wisdom of Theos) the kosmos not knew Theos via wisdom, Theos was pleased (via the foolishness of kerugmatos [proclamation] sosai [to make safe, to save] those pisteuontas [having faith]. Jews ask for a semeion [sign, indication] and Greeks seek wisdom but we kerussouen the Christou [Anointed One, Messiah, Christ] having been crucified. So, we kerussomen [proclaimed, heralded] to you and so you pisteusate [had faith]. Now, if the Christos kerussetai [is proclaimed] that He was awakened emergent from dead, how can some say in you [Sadducees] that an anastasis [a standing up again, resurrection] of the dead isn’t [doesn't happen]?

 

Romans 10.14: Then, how shall they appeal toward One in Whom they not pisteusan [have had faith]? How they pisteusousin [shall have faith] in One of Whom they haven't heard? How shall they hear apart from kerussontos [proclamation]? How shall they keruxousin unless they are sent out? Just as it has been written, “How timely are the feet of those euaggelizouenon [announcing good news, evangelizing] of peace; of those euaggelizouenon of good things!”

 

ISAIAH 52.7 [YHWH] “How at home on the mountain of God are the feet of him basar [euaggelizo] shalom [safety, peace, health, happiness, prosperity, friendship]; basar of good things; making deliverance understood, saying to Zion, ‘Your Elohiym reigns!’” 

Luke 3.2: … came a rhema [utterance] of Theos upon John bar Zekaryahuw [Zechariah] in the desolate area. And he came into all the region surrounding the river Jordan [“The Descender”], kerusson [proclaiming] a baptisma [immersion, submersion, baptism] of remorse from guilt and reformation into freedom off hamartion [missing the mark or goal; erring, offending, sinning]. Just as has been written in the Biblo of the logon of Isaiah the Prophetou, saying, “I am the phone [sound, tone, noise, voice] of one helloing [calling out “hello”] in the desolate area; prepare the road of the Kuriou. Make His paths straight and level. Every pharagx [gap, chasm] shall be filled up and every mountain and hill shall be depressed [flattened] and the skolia [crooked, warped, winding] shall be made into straight and the ragged [rugged] trails into smooth roads and all flesh shall gaze wide-eyed at the Soterion [Defender, Savior] of Theos.” 

Luke 8: And it was caused to be in the thereafter [later] and He traveled down through cities and villages kerusson and euaggelizomenos of the Kingdom of Theos. And the twelve apostoloi traveled with Him and also some gunaikes [women] who were [had been] delivered from poneron [hurtful] pneumaton [spirits] and from feebleness: Mary being called “The Magdalene” [from a town called Magdala: “Tower,” in Galilee] from whom seven demons had issued and Joanna the gune [woman, wife] of Chuza [“The Seer” or “The Prophet”], the steward of Herod Antipas, and Susanna and many others that served Him from their possessions.

 

Acts 9.19 Now, Saul was amidst the matheton [learners, pupils, disciples] in Damascus some days. And he directly ekerusse [proclaimed] the Christon in the synagogues; that the same is the Son of Theos. Now, all those hearing him marveled and said, “Isn’t this the same one ravaging those invoking this Name [Authority] in Jerusalem? And he had come into this same place in order that, binding the same. he might lead them before the faces of the chief priests.” Now, Saul was more empowered and confounded the Judaeans residing in Damascus; proving that this Same Jesus is the Christos.

 

Acts 28.30: Now, Paul stayed a whole two years in his own rented building and welcomed all those coming in to him; kerusson the Kingdom of Theos and teaching the issues about the Kuriou Jesus the Christou amidst all frankness [directness] without hindrance.

 

Mark 6.6 And He walked all around the hamlets in a circle, teaching. And He summoned the twelve and began to send them out, two by two, and gave them authority over the impure pneumaton [spirits] and commanded them in order that they take along not even one thing into the road, if not [except] merely a staff; not a bag nor bread nor a copper [money] belt; conversely, tie on sandals and not put on two tunics. And He said to them, “Wherever you enter a house, stay [reside] there until you go out from there [leave that town]. And as many as won’t receive you nor hear from you, departing from there, violently shake off the dirt beneath your feet to a testimony to them.” And having gone forth, they ekerusson [proclaimed] in order that they should metanoesosi [think differently, turnabout 180 degrees, repent]. And they ejected many demons and anointed many infirm ones with oil and healed them. 

Matthew 3: Now, came John the Baptistes [Baptizer], kerusson in the wastelands of Judea and saying, “Metanoeite [think differently, turnabout 180 degrees, repent]! for the Kingdom of the Ouranon [Heaven] has arrived.”
