Lesson 63 Amplified – SCHISMA

 SCHISMA ---- SCHISMAI

American singular: split, division, schism -- plural: splits, divisions, schisms

In the New Blood Covenant, Christians were constantly warned to be of one mind regarding the Kingdom of Theos; schisms were to be fearfully avoided.

Almost Greek [Words in italics are translator’s additions.]

1st Corinthians 1.10: Brothers! I now parakalo [call near, invite, urge, exhort, encourage, solace] you (via the name of our Kuriou [Lord, Master] Jesus, the Christou [Anointed One, Messiah, Christ]) that you all say the same logos [word] and there not be in [among] you, schismai but that you be united in the same nous [intellect, mind, understanding] and opinion. For it was shown to me (concerning you), my brothers (by those of Chloe [“Green”]), that in you there is quarrelling. This they say that each of you says differently: “I indeed am of Paul” and “I am of Apollos” and “I am of Rock” and “I am of the Christou.” Has the Christos been divided? Was Paul crucified for you or were you ebaptisthete [immersed, submerged, baptized] in the name of Paul?

1st Corinthians 11.17 But transmitting this, I not praise you for you not assemble for the better; conversely, for the worse. For (in fact) firstly I hear that there are schismata in you assembling in the ekklesia [assembly, church] and in part, I believe some of it. For there are [must be] haireseis [factionalism, dissenting belief] also in you in order that the acceptable [approved] ones in you may be caused to be shining [stand out].

John 7.37: The final day, the megale [big, large, huge, great] day of the feast, Jesus stood and shouted out, “If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink! He pisteuon [putting his faith] into Me, as the Graphe [Scripture, part of Old Testament] said, ‘Emergent from His koilias [the hollow core of the body; the location of the pneuma] will flow living water.’”

ISAIAH 58.11 YHWH always shall guide you and satisfy your nephesh [psuche] in the dry places and brace up your bones and you shall be like a watered garden and a spring of water, whose waters don't prove false …

John continued: But He said this of the Hagios Pneuma, Whom those pisteuontes into Him were about to receive for the Hagios Pneuma wasn't yet given because Jesus not yet was glorified. Hearing the logon, many emergent from the crowd said, “This truly is the Prophetes [before teller, one speaking under inspiration, prophet]!” Others said, “This is the Christos [Anointed One, Mashiyach]!” But others said,” “No! the Christos not comes from Galilee, does He? Hasn't the Graphe said that the Christos comes emergent from the spermatos [descent] of David and out from Bethlehem, Judah the village where David was?”

MICAH 5.2 [YHWH speaking] “And you, Bethlehem [“House of Bread”] Ephrata [“Fruitful” or “An Israeli Woman”], least among the thousands of Judah, out of you (to Me) He shall come forth to be caused to be One ruling in Israel.”

John continued: Then a schisma occurred in the crowd because of Him. Some emergent from them ethelon [determined, chose, decided] to arrest Him but not even one man laid a hand upon Him. Meanwhile, the Sanhedrin police came back to the Pharisees and chief priests, who asked them, “Why didn't you bring Him?” The police replied, “Not even one man ever spoke as this Man speaks.”

John 9.13: They led him toward the Pharisees, the one once blind. Now, it was a Sabbath when Jesus made the mud and opened his eyes. Accordingly, the Pharisees (also, again) asked him how he had received sight and he said to them, “He put mud on my eyes, I washed and now I see!” Accordingly, some emergent from the Pharisees said, “This Man isn’t from beside Theos because He not keeps the Sabbath.” Others said, “How can a man, who is an hamartolos [misser of the mark or goal, one in error, offender, sinner], do such semeia [signs, indications]?” So, there was a schisma in them. Again, they say to the formerly blind one, “What say you concerning Him, since He opened your eyes?” He said, “He is a prophetes!” The Judaeans not episteusan [having put their faith in] that he ever really was blind and that he had received his sight, until they summoned his parents, and they asked them, “Is this your son who (you say) was born blind? Accordingly, how does he now see?” His parents answered them, “We know that this is our son and that he was born blind but as to how he now sees, we don't know nor Who has opened his eyes. He is of age, ask him. He will speak concerning [for] himself.” His parents spoke these words because they feared the Judaeans for even now, the Judaeans had agreed that if anyone should acknowledge Him as Christon, he would be caused to be excommunicated. Via this, his parents said, “He has majority, ask him.”

John 10:17 [Jesus speaking]: “For the Father agapa [unconditionally loves] Me because I lay down My psuchen [soul, life, psyche, ego] in order that I may take it back again. Not even one man takes it from Me; conversely, I (Myself) lay it down. I have authority to lay it down and have authority to take it back again. I received this command from My Father.” Then is when a fresh schisma was caused to be in the Judeans because of these logous. Many of them said, “He is a demon and is insane. Why do you listen to Him?” Others said, “These rhemata [utterances] aren't of one daimonizouenou [demon-possessed]. Can a demon open blind eyes?”
