PSUCHE -- PSUCHAI
American singular: soul, life, psyche, ego ---- plural: souls, lives, psyches, egos
Hebrew Aramaic singular: nephesh
American Christians commonly define soul as “mind, will, and emotions”. This is our “natural” self. The following excerpts are examples of the uses of “psuche” in the New Testament (New Blood Covenant).
Almost Greek: [Words in italics are translator’s additions.]
1st Thessalonians 5.23: May the Theos of peace Himself make you absolutely, perfectly hagios [holy, sacred, consecrated], perfectly sound in your pneuma and that your psuche and your soma [body] may be faultlessly kept in the return of our Kurios Jesus the Christos. He calling you is worthy of your pistis [reliance upon, faith], Who also will do the fulfilling of your call.
HABAKKUK 2.4 “LO! the upright isn’t swelled in his nephesh” but the upright shall live by his emuwnan [pistis].”
1st Corinthians 15.45: So also, it gegraptai [has been written],“The first man, Adam, was caused to be into a living psuche.”
GENESIS 2.7: YHWH Elohiym [Triune God] formed Adam of dust from the ground and blew into his nostrils neshamah [breath] of life and Adam was caused to be a living nephesh.

Corinthians 6.16: For you are a temple of a living Theos, even as Theos said,“I will inhabit them, and I will walk among them, and I will be their Theos and they shall be to Me a people.”
LEVITICUS 26.12: [YHWH speaking] “I will give [put] my residence in your midst and My nephesh shan’t detest you. I shall always walk in your midst and shall be to you for Elohiym and you shall be to Me for a people. I AM YHWH, Your Elohiym...”
Romans 11: I say then, didn’t Theos shove [push away] His people? Not let it be caused to be! For I also am an Israelite emergent from the spermatos [descendants] of Abraham (of the tribe of Benjamin). Theos hasn’t thrust away His people (whom He knew beforehand) or not know you what the Graphe [Scripture, part of Old Blood Covenant] says (in Elia [in Hebrew; “Elijah” in English: “Whose God is YHWH”]), how He entreats Theos down to [against] Israel saying, “Kurie, they have slain Your prophetas [before tellers, prophets], undermined Your places of sacrifice; I alone am left and they seek my psuchen.”
Luke 9.23: Now He said to all of them, “If anyone wishes to come after [accompany] Me, let him utterly deny [disown] himself and daily pick up his stake and accompany Me. For whoever thele [chooses, decides] to sosai [to make safe, to save] his psuche, will destroy it but whoever shall destroy his psuchen (because of Me), this one will sosei [save] it. For what does it benefit a man if he is gaining the whole kosmon [universe, world, cosmos] but destroying or injuring himself. For if anyone is ashamed of Me and My logoi, the Son of Man will be ashamed of this one whenever He comes into His glory and into the Father’s glory and into the glory of the hagion aggelon [messengers, angels] I say unto you, truly there are some of those now standing (in this same spot) who shan’t at all taste of death until they see the Kingdom of Theos.”
Matthew 10.28: [Jesus speaking] “And you shouldn’t fear from those killing the soma but not being able to kill the psuche; but rather fear the one being able to utterly destroy both the soma and psuche in Gehenna [Hell].
Matthew 12.16: and [Jesus] warned them in order that they shouldn’t make Him known, such that might be fulfilled the rhema [word from Father God] uttered via the prophetou Isaiah, saying, “LO! My Child, Whom I chose! the Agapetos [unconditionally beloved] of Me! into Whom My psuche has delighted!
ISAIAH 42.1 [YHWH speaking] “LO! My Servant! I will sustain Him (My selected One) in Whom My Nephesh is pleased!
Matthew 16.26: [Jesus
speaking]
“For
what will a man be benefitted if he gains the whole kosmon but lose his psuche? Or what will a man give in exchange [ransom] for his psuche?”
Deuteronomy 6.5: [Moses speaking] “And you shall awhab [love] YHWH, your Elohiym, with the whole of your heart and with the whole of your nephesh and with the whole of your vehemence.
John 13.37: Rock says to Him [Jesus], “Kurie! why am I unable to accompany You now? I will lay down my psuchen for You.” Jesus answered him, “Will you lay down your psuchen for Me?”
