Lesson 98 Amplified -- APISTOS

 APISTOS

American: being without faith

APISTEO

American: to be without faith

APISTIA

American: faithlessness

APIETHEO

American: willfully lack faith

In Lesson One, we studied faith. Here we consider the opposite.

Almost Greek: (Words in italics are translator’s additions)

1st Corinthians 6: Dares anyone of you (having a matter against another of you) to be judged before the adikeo [unjust] and not before the hagion [holy, sacred, consecrated ones; saints]? Don't you know that the hagioi will judge the kosmon [universe, world, cosmos]? And if the kosmos is judged by you, are you unworthy of small judgments? Don’t you know that we will judge aggeloi [messengers, angels]? (I’m not speaking of this present life.) If (in fact) then, you have judgments in this life, do you seat as judges those being least esteemed in the ekklesia [assembly, church]? I say,“Shame on you!” Isn’t in you a wise one? Is not one in your midst who will be able to judge between his brothers? But brother amidst brother is judged and this before [by] those apiston. Actually (then) it is already a failure with you that you have lawsuits amidst yourselves. Instead, why not accept injustice? Instead, why not be apostereisthe [deprived, despoiled]? But you do injustice and apostereite [deprive, despoil] and these acts to brothers. Or not know you that those adikeo [unjust] won't be heirs to the Kingdom of Theos? Do not be led astray! Not pornoi [male prostitutes] nor idolaters nor moichoi [adulterers] nor effeminate nor sodomites nor thieves nor greedy nor drunkards nor revilers nor plunderers; in no way shall they be heirs to the Kingdom of Theos. And some of you were these but you were totally washed; but you hegiasthete [were made holy]; but you edikaiothete [were rendered just] in the name of the Kuriou and in the Hagios Pneuma of our Theos.

1st Corinthians7.8: I say to the unmarried and widows that it is kalon [beautiful, virtuous] for them if they also remain single as I am. But if they not exercise self-restraint, let them marry for it is better to marry than to be inflamed with lust. To those having married, I command (not I but the Kurios) that a gunaika [woman, wife] isn’t to be separated [divorced] from her man [husband] but if she is separated [divorced], to remain unmarried or to be reconciled to her man. A man isn’t to send away his gunaika. To the rest I say (I, not the Kurios), if any brother who has an apistos gunaika and she is pleased to live with him, not let him send her away. A gune with faith in Jesus, who has an apistos man and he is pleased to live with her, not let her send him away. For the apistos man hegiastai [has been made holy] by the of-the-faith gunaiki and the apistos gune hegiastia by the of-the-faith man, otherwise your children are [would be] impure but now they are hagia. But if the apistos separates, let them be separated. The brother or sister isn’t in bondage in such matters. Theos has called us in peace. For how know you, O gunai! whether you will soseis [make safe, save] your man or how know you, O man! whether you will soseis your gunaika?

1st Corinthians 10.23: All is right or lawful to me, conversely, not all positively contributes. All is right to me, conversely, not all builds up. Let no one seek his own good; conversely, each one should seek the good of the other. Eat everything being sold in a meat market, not examining even one piece via conscience for the earth and its contents are the Kurios’. Indeed, the whole earth and its fullness are the Kuriou’s.

PSALM 24.1: YHWH’s is the land and its fullness [contents]; the earth and those who live in it.

PSALM 50.13: [YHWH speaking] “Mine is the earth and its fullness.”

1st Corinthians 10 continued: Now, if anyone of those apiston invites you and you decide to go, eat everything set before you, not scrutinizing even one item via conscience. But if anyone tells you, “This meat is a sacrifice to idols,” do not eat via [for the sake of] that one striving to disclose this fact and for conscience’ sake. Now, by conscience, I not speak of yours but the conscience of the other person.

2nd Corinthians 6.14: Don’t be caused to be unequally yoked with apistois [those without faith] for what fellowship have dikaiosune [equity, justification, rightness] and lawlessness? What koinonia [sharing, partnership] has light with shadiness? What agreement has the Christo with Belial [“Worthlessness”, “Satan”]? or what share has one who pisto [has faith, has reliance] with one apistou? What vow [contract] has a temple of Theos with eidoloi [images for worship, idols]? For you are a temple of a living Theos, even as Theos said,

“I will inhabit them, and I will walk among them, and I will be their Theos and they shall be to Me a people.”

Hebrews 3.18: And to whom did He [Father God] swear that they wouldn’t enter into His rest, except those apeithesosi. And we see that they weren’t able to enter in via [because of] apistian.

Hebrews 4.2: for indeed we are eueggelismenoi [having had the Gospel announced to us] even as they also, but the Logos [Word] didn’t profit of those hearing; the words not having been mixed with pistei [faith] in those hearing. For we (those pisteussantes [having faith]) enter into the rest, even as He said, “As I swore in My orge, ‘They shan’t enter into My rest,’”

Psalm 95:10: “For forty years I was disgusted with that generation and said, ‘They are a people who err in their heart and they don’t know My [Father God’s] ways, to whom I swore in my aph [orge], “If they shall [They shan’t] enter into My rest.”’”

Hebrews 11.6: At-space [Apart from] pisteos, it is impossible to please God. It is necessary for the one approaching Theos pisteusai [to have faith] that HE IS and that He becomes a rewarder to those seeking out Him.

Mark 16.9: And having stood up [arisen] (at dawn) on the first day after The Sabbath, He first appeared to Mary (the Magdalene) from whom He had ejected seven demons. That one having traversed the distance from the tomb, announced the good news to those having been caused to be amidst Him; who were grieving and wailing. Those were hearing that He lives and was closely examined by her, yet they apistesan. And after these events, He appeared to two (emergent from them) walking all around. He was rendered apparent (in another form [different appearance]) traveling into the country. Likewise, those going off, they announced their experience to the rest and neither did they episteusan [have faith]. Eventually, He was rendered apparent to the eleven (as they reclined at table) and He chided their apistian and hard-heartedness because they apisteusan, those having closely examined Him as having been awakened. And He said to them, “Traveling into all the kosmon, keruxate [proclaim, herald] the euaggelion to all creation. The ones pisteusas [having faith] and baptistheis [being immersed, being submerged, being baptized] will be sothesetan [saved] but he apistesas will be condemned.

Revelation 21.6: And He said to me, “It is caused to be! I AM the Alpha and the Omega; the Start and the Finish. I will gratuitously give to the thirsting (emergent from the fountain) the Water of Life. The one subduing will inherit all and I will be (to the same) Theos and the same will be to Me, son. But the timid and the apistois and the detestable and the murderers and the pornoi and the drug dealers and the idolaters and all the false ones; their allotment is in the lake burning with fire and sulfur which is the second death.”

End of Ninety-eighth Lesson

Lesson 97 Amplified -- USELESS

 ACHRELOS

American: useless

ANOPHELES

American: useless

MATALOTES

American: uselessness

In the last lesson, we studied usefullness. Here we consider the opposite.

Almost Greek: (Words in italics are translator’s additions)

Romans 3.9: What then? Are we superior? Not at all! For we have already charged both Jews and Greeks, all to be under hamartian [missing the mark or goal; erring, offending, sinning], just as it has been written:

“There isn’t a dikaios [equitable, just, right] one; not even one. There isn’t one comprehending. There isn’t one seeking Theos. All turned away; together achreioo [rendered useless]. Not one is doing chrestoteta [usefulness]; not even one is. An opened grave is their larugx [throat, larynx]. With their glossais [tongues, languages] they are deceitful. Venom of asps is under their lips whose mouth is full of curses and bitterness. Their feet are keen to shed blood. Destruction and wretchedness are in their path, and they not knew the path of peace. Fear of Theos isn’t from in front of their eyes.

Philemon 8: Therefore, having much directness [boldness] in the Christo to order [command] you to do the proper thing because of agapen [unconditional love], I rather parakalo [call near, invite, urge, exhort, encourage, solace] you to do it. Being of this sort (just now an old man and a captive of Jesus the Christou) I, Paul, parakalo you concerning my child Onesimus [“Profitable”], the one at one time achrelos to you but now euchreston [useful] to you and to me) whom I procreated in my bonds.

Luke 17.5: And the apostoloi [delegates, ambassadors, apostles] said to the Kurio,

“Increase our pistin [faith].”

Now, the Kurios said,

“If you have pistin as small as a kernel of mustard seed, you may say to this sycamore-fig tree, ‘Be uprooted and be planted in the sea,’ and even it would obey you. Now, whom of you having a slave (plowing or shepherding, who enters emergent from the field) will say to him? ‘Having come in, directly recline to eat.’ Conversely, won’t you say to him, ‘Prepare something upon which I may dine and having girded yourself, serve me until I eat and imbibe and after doing these things, you may eat and imbibe.’ Does He hold gratitude to that slave because he did the acts prescribed to him? I think not. The same also you (when you have done all prescribed to you), say, ‘We are achreioi slaves. We have merely done what we ought to do.’”

Hebrews 7.11: If therefore, perfection was via the Levitical priestly office (for the people have been given The Law under it), why is there still need for another priest to arise (down to the order of Melchizadek) and not to be said [called] down to the order of Aaron? For the priestly office being changed, of necessity a change of law occurs. For He of Whom these words are said has partaken of another tribe, from which not even one man has given devotion at the altar. For it is clear that our Kurios has arisen out of Judah, as to which tribe Moses not spoke even one word concerning priesthood. And it is still more abundantly quite clear, that if another Priest arises, down to the likeness of Melchizadek, Who hasn’t been caused to be so down to a law of a fleshly command but He will be down to the dunamin [force, power] of an indissoluble life. For it is testified, “YOU ARE a Priest to the age, down to the order of Melchizadek.”

For an annulment of the preceding command comes about because of its asthenes [strengthlessness, weakness] and anopheles for The Law perfected not even one person but the present command is a bringing in of a better elpidos [expectation, hope] via which we draw near to Theos. And by how much occurs this? It isn’t without oath-taking [swearing] for those truly are being caused to be priests without oath-taking but He [Jesus] with oath-taking via Him [Father] Who says to Him,

“The Kurios [Father] swore and won’t change His mind, ‘“YOU ARE a priest to the age down to the order of Melchizadek.’”

By so much, Jesus has been caused to be surety of a better blood covenant. In fact, there are many having been caused to be priests, being prevented to continue by death. But He has the priestly office, not to be passed on because He remains to the age [end of time]; therefore, He is also sozein [able to make safe, able to save] those to perfection, those drawing near to Theos via Him, ever living to intercede on their behalf. For such a High Priest was fitting to us; hagios [holy, sacred, consecrated], akakos [without worthlessness], undefiled, having been separated from hamartolon [missing the mark or goal; erring, offending, sinning] and being caused to be higher than the ouranon [the skies, the heavens], Who hasn’t need (as do the high priests) to offer sacrifices down day by day (firstly, for their own hamartion, then for those of the people). For He did this once for everyone, offering Himself up. For The Law appoints men (having infirmity) high priests but the logos [word] of the oath-taking, after the giving of The Law, appoints a Son having been perfected to the age.

Titus 3.9: But stay aloof from stupid speculations, tracing by generations, quarrelling and battling of law for these are anopheleis and empty. Avoid a heretic [schismatic, divider] amidst [after] one and a second warning, knowing that such a one has been perverted and hamartanei [misses the mark or goal; errs, offends, sins], being self-condemned.

2nd Peter 2.9: The Kurios knows how to rescue the well-reverent emergent from the testing but the unjust are being curtailed [contained] to a day of kriseos [decision, judgment rendered, verdict] but especially those traveling backwards in fleshly lusting and disgusting leadership [authority]. These are brazen darers, self-pleasing, not trembling when blasphemountes [speaking irreverently, profaning, blaspheming] the glorious, where aggeloi (being greater in strength and dunamei [force, power]) not bring down on them a blasphemon [abusive] krisin [judgment] in proximity of [before] the Kurio. But these are like irrational, physical-living animals having been procreated to capture and to slaughter. Blasphemountes where they have no knowledge, they shall be totally destroyed in their ruin; taken care of for injustice by suitable wages. They consider daytime indulgence a pleasure, reveling in stains and flaws in their delusions, faring well with you. Having eyes full of a moichalidos [adulteress], also not refraining from hamartias, they are entrapping unstable psuchas [souls, lives, psyches, egos]. Having a heart trained in avarice, having accursed children, abandoning the straight road, they have been caused to stray, following out the road of Balaam the son of Beor, who egapesen [loved] the wages of injustice. But he received a reprimand for his own transgression. For a mute beast of burden, speaking in the phone [sound, tone, noise, voice] of a man, restrained the insanity of the prophetou [before-seer, prophet]. These are waterless fountains, clouds driven by tornadoes, for whom the gloom of shadiness is reserved to the ages. For speaking puffed out words of matalotes, in licentiousness they entrap (in the lusts of the flesh) those barely escaping these overturned-in-fraudulence [error]; professing freedom to them while themselves being slaves under corruption [decay]. For by what someone has been made worse [defeated], to this he has also been enslaved. For if having escaped the contamination of the kosmou [universe, world, cosmos] in a recognition of the Kuriou and Soteros [deliverer, savior], (Jesus, the Christou) and again being entangled by these and been made worse, the last state has been caused to be worse to them than the first. For it would be better for them not to have recognized the road of dikaiosunes [equity, justification, rightness], than recognizing it, to revert [turn back around, 180 degrees] emergent from the hagias commands transmitted to them. But to them has happened the truth of the proverb: “A dog reverts upon its own vomit and a bathed hog reverts into a muddy wallow.”

Matthew 25.24: Now, also approaching, he having received the one talent said, ‘Kurie! I knew you, that you are a hard man, harvesting where you not sowed and collecting from where you not winnowed and fearing (going away), I hid your talent in the earth. LO! you have what is yours.’ But responding his kurios said to him, ‘Ponere [Hurtful] and lazy slave! You knew that I harvest where I not sowed and collect where I not winnowed. Accordingly, it behooved you to throw my silver to the bankers and coming back, I would have received mine with interest. Accordingly, take up from him the talent and give it to him having the ten talents, for him having, all will be given, and he will super-abound but from him not having, even the little that he has will be taken up from him. And eject the achreion slave outside into obscurity. There [In that place] will be lamentation and grinding of the teeth.’”

Lesson 86 -- Amplified and Revised -- CHRESTOTES

 CHRESTOTES

American: usefulness (excellence in character or demeanor)

CHRESTOS

American: useful

EUCHRESTOS

American: useful

It is instructive for us to note that the New Blood Covenant primarily uses words for usefulness in place of words for goodness when referring to the quality of a person. The Lord Jesus also chose the word in a parable: “good and useful servant.” May we assume that “the best that we can be” is useful to or in the Kingdom of God?

Almost Greek: (Words in italics are translator’s additions)

1st Corinthians 15.33: Do not be led astray! Kakia [Worthless] companionship morally shrivels chresth [useful] habits. Be aroused to fair deeds and not to hamartanete [missing the goal or mark, erring, offending, sinning] for some of you have ignorance of Theos. I relate this for your shame.

Romans 2: Therefore, you are without excuse, O man, all of you krinon [distinguishing, deciding, judging, putting on trial] for in what you krineis in another person, you condemn yourself for you condemning practice the same offenses. Now, we know that the krima [decision, judgment rendered, verdict] of Theos is down [according] to truth upon those who indeed practice these offenses. Do you think this, O man (you krinon upon those indeed practicing these offenses and yet doing them yourself), that you will escape the krima of Theos? Or do you despise the wealth of the chrestotetos, the tolerance and the forbearance of Theos; not knowing that the chreston of Theos leads you to metanoian [thinking differently, turning about 180 degrees, repenting]? But because of your skleroteta [callous, hard] and impenitent heart, you are accumulating for yourself orgen [violent passion, fury, rage, wrath] in a day of orges and a revelation of the dikaiokarisias [right judgment] of Theos, Who will give to each one down [according] to his work.

Romans 3.9: What then? Are we superior? Not at all! For we have already charged both Jews and Greeks, all to be under hamartian, just as it has been written:

“There isn’t a dikaios one; not even one. There isn’t one comprehending. There isn’t one seeking Theos. All turned away; together achreioo [rendered useless]. Not one is doing chrestoteta [usefulness]; not even one is.

PSALMS 14.1: The fool has said in his heart, “There is no God!” They corruptly acted. They hatefully did. In deeds none is doing good. YaHWeH looked down from Heaven upon the sons of Adam, to see if there was (any) being intelligent and seeking God. All turn off together. They are turning corrupt. None is doing good, not even one!

Romans cont.: An opened grave is their larugx [throat, larynx].

Romans 11.11: I say then, didn’t they trip [stumble, err] in order that they fall? Not let it be caused to be! Conversely, by their paraptomati [unintentional sideslips, lapses, deviations] came soteria [rescue, safety, salvation] to the ethnesin [nations, races, non-Jews, gentiles] to provoke them to jealousy. But if their paraptomati be wealth to the kosmou [universe, world, cosmos] and their deterioration [failure] be wealth to the ethnon, think how much more wealth their completion will be! In fact, I am apostolos [delegate, ambassador, apostle] over the ethnon, therefore, I speak to you, the ethnon. I glorify my service if (somehow) I may make my own flesh [race] jealous and soso [may make safe, may save] some emergent from them. For if their rejection be exchange [restoration] to the kosmou, what will their admission be if not life emergent from the dead. Now, if the first fruits be hagia, the swelling mass of dough also is. And if a root is hagia, the branches also are holy. Now, if some of the branches were excised and you (a wild olive tree) were engrafted into them and you were caused to be a sharer in the richness of the root of the olive tree, not exult against the excised branches. But if you do exult against the excised branches, remember that the root sustains you, not conversely, you sustain the root. You will say then, “Branches were excised in order that I might be engrafted. ”Rightly [more correctly], they were excised for apistia [faithlessness] and by pistei [faith in, reliance upon] you stand. Not be arrogant! conversely fear, for if Theos not spared the natural branches, lest somehow neither will He spare you. Know then the chrestoteta and decisiveness [rigor] of Theos (upon those {in fact} having fallen, rigor, but to you, chrestoteta), provided that you remain in the chrestoteti. Otherwise, you also will be cut off and if they do not remain apistia, they will be engrafted for Theos has the dunatos [force, power] again to engraft them. For if you (emergent from nature) were cut off the wild olive tree and (against nature) were engrafted into a cultivated olive tree, how much more likely are these natural branches to be engrafted into their own olive tree?

Colossians 3.12: Accordingly, dress yourself in the manner of the chosen of Theos: hagioi [holy, sacred, consecrated] and egapemenoi [unconditionally loved], splen [spleen, guts, bowels, sympathy] of pity, chrestoteta, humility, gentleness, forbearance; enduring one another and forgiving yourselves.

Philemon 8: Therefore, having much directness [boldness] in the Christo to order [command] you to do the proper thing because of agapen, I rather parakalo [to call near, to invite, to urge, to exhort, to encourage, to solace] you to do it. Being of this sort (just now an old man and a captive of Jesus the Christou) I, Paul, parakalo you concerning my child Onesimus [“Profitable”], the one at one time achrelos [useless] to you but now euchreston to you and to me) whom I procreated in my bonds.

Luke 6.27: “Accordingly, to you (those hearing) I say, ‘Agapate your echthrous [hater, enemy]. Do well to those detesting you. Eulogeite [fine speak, commend, bless, praise] those cursing you and proseuchesthe [humbly beg of God; pray] over those insulting [slandering] you. To those thumping you on the left jaw, also present the other side. And those taking from you your outer garment, also not deny them your shirt. Now, to all asking of you, give and from those taking away yours, don’t demand them back. And just as you wish men to do to you, you also similarly do to them. And if you agapete those agapontas you, what sort of charis [graciousness] is due to you? for hamartoloi also agapontas them. And if you do well to those doing well to you, what sort of charis is due to you? for hamartoloi do the same. And if you loan near [to] whom you elpizete [expect, hope] to receive in full, what sort of charis is due to you? for hamartoloi also lend to hamartoloi in order that they may receive similar in full. Rather agapete your echthrous [haters, enemies] and do well and lend, fully expecting not even one cent in return and many wages will be accruing to you and you will be sons of the Highest because He is chrestos to the ungrateful and the ponerous [hurtful]. Accordingly, be caused to be compassionate, just as your Father is compassionate. Not krinete [distinguish, judge, put on trial] and you won’t at all be krithete. Not katadiazete [condemn] and you won’t at all be katadiskasthete. Fully free and you will be fully freed. Give and it will be given to you, kalon [beautiful, virtuous] measure (shaken and tamped and piled over the top) shall they give into your bosom for in the same measure by which you measure out will gifts be meted out to you.’”

2nd Timothy 2.14: Quietly remind them of these truths, attesting before the face of the Kuriou not to logomachein [debate over words], this being serviceable to not even one thing [this is useless] towards [can result in] put down to those hearing. Hurry to present yourself approved to Theos, an unashamed worker, accurately analyzing the logon of truth but remain aloof from worldly, empty babbling. In addition, it causes advancement of ungodliness and their logos feeds [spreads] like gangrene (emergent from which are Hymenaeus [“Marriage”] and Philetus [“Amiable”]), who miss the mark or goal concerning the truth, saying that even now the anastasin [standing up again, resurrection] has come and they have overturned the pistin of some. nevertheless, the solid [stable] foundation of Theos stands, having this seal: “The Kurios knew those being His,” and “Let everyone naming the name of the Christou desert [rebel] from injustice.” Now, in a big house there aren’t only vessels of gold and silver but also wooden and earthen vessels; also, some to timen [value, esteem] and some to disgrace. Accordingly, if any thoroughly cleanses himself from these, he will be a vessel to timen, hagiasmenon [having been made holy, having been sanctified] and euchreston to the Despote [Despot, Master] having been prepared to every good work. Now, flee juvenile lusts but pursue dikaiosunen [equity, justification, rightness], pistin, agapen and peace. Be with those calling upon the Kuriou emergent from a clean heart but shun stupid and uninstructed speculations, knowing that they procreate battles. It behooves a slave of the Kuriou not to war; conversely, to be affable toward everyone; instructive, forbearing, in gentleness training those opposing him in order that perhaps Theos may give them metanoian [reversal, repentance, compunction] to a recognition of the truth and they may regain their senses emergent from the trap of the diabolou [leader to shame, devil, satyr], having been captured under him to do his thelema [determination, choice, decision, decree].

2nd Timothy 4.9: Directly make haste to come toward me for Demas deserted me. He egapesas the present age and has traveled to Thessalonica, Macedonia. Crescens [“Increasing”] went into Galatia, Asia Minor. Titus [“Honorable”] went into Dalmatia. Only Luke is with me. Pick up John Mark and bring him with you for he is euchrestos to me to [for] service. I sent out Tychicus [“Chance”] to Ephesus, Asia Minor. Coming, bear [bring] the outer garment which I left with Carpus in Troas, Mysia and the biblia [rolls, scrolls, books]; especially the parchments. Alexander [“Man-Defender”], the coppersmith, showed to me much kakia [worthlessness]. The Kurios will give away to him down to his works. You also greatly be on guard against him for he opposed our logois [words]. In my first apologia [defense], not even one man was present with me, but all deserted me. (May it not be charged to them!) But the Kurios stood beside me and empowered me in order that via me, the kerugma [proclamation] might be fully carried out and all the ethne might hear. I was rescued emergent from the mouth of the lion. The Kurios will also rescue me from all ponerou [hurtful] work and sosei [will make safe, will save] me into His above the sky [heavenly] kingdom, to Whom be glory to the ages of the ages. Amen!

Titus 3: Quietly remind them to subordinate themselves to chiefs and authorities (to submit to authority), to be ready toward all good work (vilifying not even one person), to be amachous [without-fighting, peaceable], all appropriate [moderate], showing gentleness toward all men. For we were also once without understanding, unpersuadable, caused to stray, slaving for lusts and motley sensual pleasures, passing time in kakia [worthlessness] and ill-will; stugetoi [hateful], misountes [hating] one another. But chrestotes and philanthropia [love of mankind] shone forth from Abba Theos, our Soteros [defender, savior], not emergent from works of dikaiosune which we had done but down to his compassion, He esosen [made safe, saved] us via bathing of spiritual rebirth and renovation of the Hagios Pneuma, Whom He copiously poured forth upon us via Jesus, the Christou (our Soteros) in order that dikaiothentes [being justified] by that charity [graciousness], we might be caused to be heirs down to the elpida [expectation, hope] of eternal life. The logos is pistos [trustworthy, faithful] and I boulomai [will, resolve, intend] you to thoroughly affirm about these truths in order that those pepisteukotes [having faith] in Theos may think of kalon works over which to preside [to practice]. These endeavors are kala and helpful to men. But stay aloof from stupid speculations, tracing by generations, quarrelling and battling of law for these are anopheleis [useless] and empty. Avoid a heretic [schismatic, divider] amidst [after] one and a second warning, knowing that such a one has been perverted and hamartanei [misses the mark or goal; errs, offends, sins], being self-condemned.

1st Peter 2: Accordingly, putting away all kakian [worthlessness], all dolon [decoying, trickery], all hupokriseis [deceit, hypocrisy] and all phthonous [ill will, spite] and all defamation, as newborn infants yearn for true logikon [logical, rational] milk in order that you may grow in it; if perhaps you have tasted that the Kurios is chrestos. Drawing near to Him (a living Stone), (in fact) under men having been rejected, but in the proximity [sight] of Theos, select [elect] -- precious. You also, as living stones, are being constructed into a spiritual dwelling, a hagion, priestly fraternity, to offer up spiritual sacrifices well-received by Theos via Jesus, the Christou. For this is also included in the Graphe [Scripture, part of Old Testament]: “LO! I place in Zion an elect, precious Cornerstone. The one pisteuon [having faith] upon Him shan’t at all be shamed down.”

Matthew 11.28: [Jesus speaking] Come here To Me! all feeling fatigue and being burdened, and I will refresh you. Take upon yourself My yoke and learn from Me because I AM gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest to your psuchais [soul, life, psyche, ego]. My yoke is chrestos and My phortion [bill of lading, task, service] is light.”

Lesson 96 Amplified -- NOMIKOS

 NOMIKOS

American singular: an expert on Mosaic Law, a lawyer

NOMIKOI

American plural: experts on Mosaic Law, lawyers

As in America today, perhaps there were a superfluous number of lawyers in the biblical middle east as well.

Almost Greek: (Words in italics are translator’s additions)

Luke 7.28: [Jesus speaking] “For I say, not even one in [of] those born of woman is a larger [greater] prophetes [before teller, prophet] than John the Baptistes but the mikroteros [small] one in the Kingdom of Theos is greater than he is.”

And all the people hearing this statement and the tax-farmers acknowledged the edikaiosan [justification] of Theos, baptisthentes [having been immersed, having been submerged, having been baptized] with the baptisma of John but the Pharisees and the nomikoi set aside [rejected] the counsel [advice] of Theos to themselves, not baptisthentes [were baptized] by him.

Luke 10.25: A certain nomikos stood up to thoroughly test Him and said,

“Teacher! what may I do to inherit eternal life?”

Now, He said to him,

“What has been written in The Law? How do you read?”

Now, answering, He said,

“You shall agapeseis [unconditionally love] the Kurion [Lord. Master] your Theos emergent from the whole of your heart and emergent from the whole of your psuches [soul, life, psych, ego] and emergent from the whole of your strength and emergent from the whole of your mind and your neighbor in that way which you agape yourself.”

DEUTERONOMY 6.5: [Moses speaking] Hear! O Israel! YHWH is our Elohiym [Triune God]. YHWH is first. You shall awhab [phile, love] YHWH, your Elohiym with the whole of your heart and with the whole of your nephesh [psuche] and with the whole of your energy.

LEVITICUS 19.18: [YHWH speaking] “... and you shall awhab your associate as you love yourself.”

[Jesus continues] Now, He said to him,

“You correctly answered. Do this and you will LIVE!”

Luke 11.45: Now answering, one of the nomikon says to Him,

“Teacher! saying these words, you also abuse us.”

And He said,

“And to you, nomikois, woe! because you burden men with oppressive burdens and you (yourselves) not (with even one of your fingers) touch the burdens. Woe to you! because you construct the tombs of the propheton but your forefathers slew them. Consequently, you are witnesses of and approve of the works of your forefathers because in fact they slew them, but you construct their tombs [bury them out of sight or hide their messages?]. Also, via this, the wisdom of Theos said,

‘I will send forth to them prophetas and apostolous and emergent from them, they will slay and drive off in order that may be demanded of this generation the blood of all the propheton poured forth from the founding of the kosmou [universe, world, cosmos]; from the blood of Abel [“Breath”] up to the blood of Zecharyah [“YHWH Remembers”], who perished amidst [between] the altar and the House of God [“Hagios of Hagioi”].

Yes! I say to you, it shall be demanded of this generation. Woe to you nomikois! because you took away the key of [to] the knowledge; you not entered yourselves and those having entered, you estopped.”

Luke 14: And it was caused to be, in His going into a house of one of the chiefs of the Pharisees to eat bread on a sabbath and they were aside examining Him. And LO! some man was dropsical [bloated] before Him. And asking, Jesus spoke toward the Pharisee nomikous, saying,
“Is it legal to cure on the sabbath?”Now, they kept silent. And taking hold of him, He cured him and fully freed him. And beginning to speak toward them, He said,
“Which one of you whose ass or ox should fall into a pit, and he doesn’t immediately pull it out in the sabbath?”
And they hadn’t the forcefulness to debate Him about this.

Titus 3.12: If ever I dispatch Artemas [in Greek: “Gift of Artemis”; Roman: “Gift of Diana”] or Tychicus [“Fortuitous”] to replace you, hurry to come to me into Nikopolis [“Victorious City”], Macedonia for I have decided to winter there. Diligently support Zenas [“Jove Given”] the nomikon and Apollos in order that they lack not even one thing. Let our people learn to preside over [to practice] good works to needed use [needs] in order that they may not be without fruit.

Matthew 22.34: But the Pharisees, hearing that He muzzled the Sadducees, were assembled together with Him and one of them (a nomikos) questioned Him, testing Him and saying,

“Teacher! which one of the commands is megale [big, large, huge, great] in The Law?”

And Jesus said to him,

“‘You shall agapeseis the Kurion your Theos in [with] all your heart and in all your psuche and in all your deep thought [understanding].’ This is the first and the megale command.”

“But the second is like it: ‘You shall agapeseis [unconditionally love] your neighbor whom how you love yourself.’ In these two commands hang the whole of The Law and the Prophets [Old Testament].”
