American: rescue,
safety, salvation
In Amplified Lesson Thirty, we studied Our Savior, Jesus the Christos. Here we expand the discussion to salvation, the condition of being saved.
Almost Greek: (Words in italics are translator’s additions)
1st Thessalonians 5: Brothers! You have no need to be written concerning the times and occasions for you yourselves know that the day of the Kurios, as a thief in the night, so it comes. For when they say, “Peace and security,” then destruction unexpectedly comes upon them as birth pain to the pregnant woman and they may not (in no way) escape. But you aren’t in shadiness, brothers, such that the day should seize you as a thief. All of you are sons of the Rays [Light] and sons of the day. We aren’t of shadiness, therefore let’s not sleep as the rest but let’s be vigilant and be sober. For those sleeping, sleep by night and those getting drunk, are drunk at night. Since we are of the day, let us be sober, putting on the corselet [body armor] of pistis [faith] and of agape [unconditional love] and a helmet of elpis [expectation, hope] of soteria. For Theos not placed us prostrate into orge [violent passion, fury, rage, wrath] but for acquisition of soteria via our Kurios Jesus, the Christos (the One having died on our behalf) in order that whether we keep awake [live] or we sleep [die], we may live together with Him. So, parakaleite [call near, invite, urge, exhort, encourage, solace] one another and be a builder up one to the other as indeed you do.
2nd Thessalonians 2.13: I ought always eucharistein [express gratitude to, give thanks to] Theos concerning you, brothers, egapemeoi [having been unconditionally loved] by the Kurios, because Theos chose you from the beginning to soteria in hagiasmos [holiness, purity] of the Hagios Pneuma and conviction of the truth to which He called you, via my euaggelion [good news, gospel, evangel], to acquisition of the glory of our Kurios Jesus, the Christos. So then, stand firm, brothers, and firmly grip the transmittals that you were taught either by logos [word] or by a letter of mine.
2nd Corinthians 6: Being your fellow worker, I also parakaloumen you not vainly to receive the charin [graciousness] of Theos, for He says,“At a favorable time, I heard you and in a day of soterias, I helped you.”
ISAIAH 49.8: Thus says YHWH:
“In a favorable time, I paid attention to you and in a day of yeshuwah [deliverance, salvation], I surrounded [enfolded, embraced, hugged] you.”
2nd Corinthians 8: Because even if I grieved you in the first letter, I not regret it now, even though I did regret it then. For I see that that letter (even if indeed it grieved you for an hour) has caused change. Now, I am joyful, not that you were grieved, conversely, that you were grieved to metanoian [thinking differently, turning about 180 degrees, repenting]. For you grieved down to the choice of Theos in order that you might not be injured in even one word emergent from me. For sadness down to the choice of Theos works metanoian to irrevocable soterian but worldly sadness fully works out death.
Romans 1.16: For I am not ashamed of the euaggelion of the Christou for it is the dunamis [force, power] of Theos to soterian to the whole population pisteuonti [having faith]; first to the Jew and also to the Greek [everyone else].
DEUTERONOMY 30.14: For
the dabar [logos: word] is
very near to you, in your mouth and in your heart in order that you may do it.”
Romans
continues] But what says it? “The rhema [utterance] is near you (in your
mouth and in your heart).” That is the rhema of pisteos (which we kerussomen [proclaim,
herald]), that if you acknowledge [covenant] in your mouth the
Kurion Jesus and pisteuses [have faith] in your heart that Theos
awakened Him emergent from dead, you sothese [will be safe; will be
saved]. For with the heart one
pisteuetai [holds faith] toward dikaiosunen [equity, justification,
rightness] and with the mouth one
acknowledges toward soterian. For the Graphe [Scripture, part of Old
Testament] says, “Everyone pisteuon [having reliance, having faith] upon
Him won’t be shamed down,” for there
isn’t a distinction for the same Kurios of all of mankind (both of Jew and of Greek) is wealth to all those
appealing to Him for,
“Everyone (whoever invokes the name [authority] of the Kuriou [Lord, Master]) sothesetai [will be safe; will be saved].”
JOEL 2.32: [YHWH speaking] “For it will be that all, who call out to the name of YHWH, mala [will be smooth, will be slippery, will escape, will be saved] for in Mount Zion and in Jerusalem shall be deliverance,” as YHWH has said, “and there is a survivor to whom YHWH shall call out.”
Philippians 2.12: So then, my agapetoi, just as you have always obeyed (not just as only in my presence but now much in my absence), work out your soterian with fear and trembling. For Theos is the One active in you both to thelein [determine, choose, decide, decree] and to do for His good pleasure. Do everything apart from grumbling or disputing in order that you may be blameless and innocent children of Theos, blameless in the midst of a skolias [crooked, warped, perverse] and corrupt generation in whom you shine as lights in the kosmo [universe, world, cosmos], holding the logos of life (into a boast to me) in the day of the Christou, that I not vainly ran nor felt fatigue in vain.
Ephesians 1.3: Eulogetos [Fine spoken of, Commended, Blest, Praised] be the Theos and Father of our Kuriou Jesus, the Christou, Who blest us with all spiritual eulogesas [blessing] above the sky [in Heaven], in Jesus, the Christo, as He selected us before the founding of the kosmou [universe, world, cosmos] to be hagious and unblemished before Him. He was predestining us (in agape) to adoption via Jesus, the Christou, to Himself down [according] to His good pleasure and thelematos [determination, choice, decision, decree] to the praise of His glory and charitos [graciousness] with which He favored us in the Egapemeno [Beloved] in Whom we have redemption via Jesus’ blood; aphesin [forgiveness] of paraptomaton [side slips, lapses, deviations] down to the riches of the Father’s charitos. Which graciousness He caused to abound to us in all wisdom and intelligence, making known to us the musterion [secrets, mysteries] of His thelematos down to His good pleasure, which Father proposed (in Himself) for administration of the fullness of times, to head up all the ouranois [elevation, the heavens, the sky, aloft] and the earth in the Christo. In Him [Jesus], we have been selected to be an inheritance, being predestined down to the purpose of the Father, all working down to His boulen [will, resolve, intention]; His thelematos for us to be His praise and glory, those having previously trusted in the Christo. In Him [Jesus], you were also hearing the logon of truth, the euaggelion of your soterias and in Whom you pisteusantes [were also having reliance or faith]. You were sealed up with the epaggelias [announced, proclaimed, promised] Hagios Pneuma, Who is the earnest [down payment, deposit] of our inheritance until the redemption of the possession to Jesus’ praise and glory.
Ephesians 6.10:
For the rest, my brothers, be empowered in the Kurio and in the might of His
strength. Put on the whole armor of Theos to be able to stand against the wiles
of the diabolou [leader to shame,
devil, satyr] because it isn’t
us wrestling against flesh and blood but against the chiefs, against the
forces, against the kosmos-rulers of the shadiness of this age; against the
pneumatika [spiritual] powers of
ponerias [whoring, committing incest, doing non-marital sexual intercourse]
above the sky! Because of this, take up the whole armor of Theos in
order that you may be able to stand against [oppose] in the ponera [hurtful] day and having worked out all,
to stand. Stand then, having girded about your loins with truth.
ISAIAH
11.5: [Jesus] Rightness shall be the belt of His waist and fidelity the
belt of His loins.
[Ephesians
continues] and putting on the breastplate of dikaiosunes
ISAIAH
59.17: [YHWH] He put on tsidqah [dikaiosune] like armor and a
helmet of yeshuwah [soteria] on His head.
[Ephesians
continues] and having shod your feet in the preparation of the euaggeliou of
peace.
ISAIAH 52.7: YHWH says, “LO! how suitable [appropriate] on the mountain of God are the feet of him bringing glad news, making shalom [safety, peace, health, happiness, prosperity, friendship] heard, bringing news of good, making heard yeshuwah [soteria], saying to Zion, ‘Your Elohiym reigns.’”
[Ephesians continues] In [Above] all, having taken up the shield of pisteos [reliance, faith] in which you will be able to quench all the having-been-made-fiery darts [arrows] of the ponerou [hurtful] one, take up the helmet of soteriou, and the sword of the Hagios Pneuma (which is the rhema [utterance] of Theos), via all proseuches [humbly begging God, praying] and deeseos [making petitions, making requests, making prayers], at all times proseuchomenoi in the Hagios Pneuma and keeping awake to this same in all persistence and deesei concerning the hagion [holy, sacred, consecrated ones; saints].
1st Peter 1.3: Adorable is the Theos and the Father of our Kuriou Jesus, the Christou; the One Who down to His much compassion begot us into living elpida [expectation, hope] via the anastaseos [standing up again, resurrection] of Jesus, the Christou, emergent from dead to an imperishable, unsoiled and unfading inheritance; having been guarded in Ouranois [Heavens] for you in the dunamei of Theos. It was being guarded via pisteos into a soterian ready to be revealed in the final time in which you jump for joy. Just for a puny time now, the testing of your pisteos which is more precious than gold is distressing in motley tests [trials] that eradicate via fire. But being tested, you may be found into praise and timen [value, esteem] and glory in the revelation of Jesus, the Christou, Whom not having personally known, you agapate [unconditionally love]; into Whom (just now) not clearly discerning, you are pisteuontes. [having reliance, having faith]. But you jump with joy (with inexpressible joy) and glory to tend [care for] the telos [the point aimed at, the end of this age] of your pisteos, soterian of your psuchon [souls, lives, psyches, egos]. With respect to which soterias, prophetai [before tellers, prophets] searched out and explored, propheteusantes [before telling, speaking under inspiration, prophesying] with respect to the charitos [graciousness] to you; inquiring into whom or what sort of time the Hagios Pneuma of the Christou made clear to them, testifying (in advance) to the Christon’s sufferings and the glories accompanying these sufferings. It was revealed to them (not only to themselves but to us) that they served [distributed] the same truths which now were announced to you via those euaggelisamenon [having announced the good news] to you in the Hagios Pneuma, sent forth from Ouranou, in to which aggeloi [messengers, angels] yearn to look.
