Lesson 3 Amplified -- THEOS

THEOS

American singular: Father God -- Hebrew Aramaic singular: El

THEOS

American singular: god -- Hebrew Aramaic singular: el

THEOI

American plural: gods -- Hebrew Aramaic plural: elohiym

THEOI

American plural: The Trinity -- Hebrew Aramaic plural: Elohiym

Name of Father God in American: JEHOVAH or YAHWAY

Name of Father God in Hebrew Aramaic; written: YHWH -- spoken: Yehovah

As you see above, theos and theoi in lower case refer to manmade deity and manmade deities. Theos and El in upper case refer to our Heavenly Father. Theoi and Elohiym in upper case refer to the Holy Trinity -- Father God, the Only Son begotten by the Father (Jesus the Christos), and the Holy Spirit. Americans have incorporated into our language transliterations of the name of Father God used by the Hebrews.

Almost Greek: [Words in italics are translator’s additions.]

1st Thessalonians 4.13: I don’t want you to be ignorant with respect to those sleeping [having passed on] lest you grieve as also the rest do, not having elpis [expectation, hope]. For if we pisteuo [put our faith in] that Jesus died and stood up again, so Theos will also bring with Him [Jesus] those who have been put to sleep via Jesus. For this we say to you in a logos of the Kurios, that we (remaining living until the coming of the Kurios) not may in no way go ahead of those having been put to sleep because the Kurios Himself will descend from the ouranos [sky] in a rallying cry in the phone [sound] of an archaggelos [chief messenger, chief angel] and with a trumpet of Theos. And the dead in the Christos will stand up again first, then the living will be caught up together with them (in the cloudiness) to a meeting of the Kurios in the air. And so, we will always be with the Kurios. So also comfort one another with these logoi [words].

2nd Thessalonians 2: Brothers! we ask you over the coming of our Kurios Jesus the Christos and our gathering together to Him not to waver in the nous [intellect, mind, understanding]; not to be frightened neither via pneuma nor via logos nor via letter (as if from me) as if the Day of the Christos is come. Let not even one person deceive you not in no way because unless the apostasia [defection from the truth] comes first and the man of hamartia [a miss of the mark, goal; offense, sin] is revealed (the son of destruction, he who is opposite to Theos and is exalting himself over everything relating to Theos or object of worship) to sit down in the temple of Theos, as if Theos (showing that he himself is a theos), the Day of the Christos hasn’t come. Don't you remember that I told you these things while I was still with you? Now you know the One holding back his being revealed in His time. For the secret of lawlessness is already active. He is merely holding him back now until it comes into being emergent from the middle. Then the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Kurios will destroy by the pneumati [breaths, spirits] of His mouth and katargesei [render him entirely idle or useless] by the manifestation of Himself at His return. For them is the coming down of the energeian [efficiency, energy] of Satan in all dunamis [force, power] of pseudes [false, deceitful, pseudo] semeia [signs] and omens and with all unjust delusions in the lost because they not received the agape [unconditional love] of the truth, whereby they might be sothenai [made safe, saved]. Because of their rejection of the truth, Theos will send to them fraudulent energeian for them to pisteusai [to put their faith in] pseudes [falsehoods, lies] in order that all those not pisteusantes in the truth but having approved injustice, may be condemned.

Galatians 1.3: Charis [Graciousness] and peace to you from Father Theos and from our Kuriou Jesus the Christou (the One having given Himself over our hamartion, however He might tear us out emergent from the present, poerou [hurtful] age down [according] to the thelema of our Theos and Father), Whose is the glory to the ages of the ages. Amen!

Galatians 3: O foolish Galatians! who bewitched you not to be convinced of the truth (to [about] whom Jesus the Christos was previously written; crucified before your very eyes)? Only this do I want to learn from you, did you receive the Hagios Pneuma emergent from working law or of pistis emergent from hearing? Are you so foolish, having begun in the Hagios Pneuma, do you now finish in the flesh? Vainly suffered you so much (if indeed vainly)? Is it emergent from working law or of pistis emergent from hearing that He is fully supplying the Hagios Pneuma to you and active in you in dunameis? Just as Abraham had pistis in Theos and it was credited to him so much as dikaiosunen [equity, justification, rightness]:

GENESIS 15.6 …and he, Abraham, trusted in YHWH and He credited it to him for tasadaqua [dikaiosune].

[Galatians 3 continued] Know then that those emergent from pistis, these are the sons of Abraham. Now foreseeing the Graphe [Scripture, part of Old Testament] that Theos would render just the ethne [races, non-Jews, Gentiles] emergent from pistis, He proclaimed the euaggelion [good news, gospel, evangel] in advance, to Abraham, “...that all ethne will be blest in you.”

GENESIS 12.3 [Adonay {Kurios} speaking] “... and in you shall all the families [tribes] of the earth be blest.”

Lesson 2 Amplified -- THELEMA

THELEMA

American: a determination, a choice, a decision, a decree (active)

 BOULEMA

American: a will, a resolve, an intention (passive)

Most existing English translations of the New Testament [New Blood Covenant] use “will” for both of these Koine Greek words. A boulema of God appears ten times in the Koine Greek New Testament. The thelema of God appears eighty-two times in the Koine Greek New Testament. As above, translator’s distinction between them is “wishing” when the word is boulema and “deciding or decreeing” when the word is thelema. The first Scripture below is one of the strongest comparisons between these two words: When Jesus is praying in Gethsemane [“Oil Press”; an urban garden at the foot of the Mount of Olives in Jerusalem], He prays,

Almost Greek: [Words in italics are translator’s additions.]

Luke 22:42: “Father, if You boulemai, carry away this cup off [from] Me. But not My thelema, conversely, Your thelema be caused to be.”

Matthew 26:39: “My Father! if it is possible, let that cup go away from Me; yet not as I thelo, conversely, as You thelo.

Do you see the distinction? Boulemai is a passive “wishing”, whereas thelemai is active “deciding or decreeing”. Translator is convinced that Father God doesn’t merely boulomai from afar, He thelemai from within us. Further excerpts from Almost Greek follow:

Romans 9.18: Accordingly, then He thelei to whom He has compassion and He thelei to whom He renders stubbornness. Then you will say to me, “Why does He still blame? for who opposes His boulemati?” So then at least, who are you, O man, the one talking back to Theos? The thing molded won’t say to the molder, “Why made you me this way,” will it? Or doesn't a potter have the privilege from the same mass of clay to make one vessel toward timen [value, esteem] and one toward disgrace. What if Theos thelon to display orgen [violent passion, fury, rage, wrath] and to make His dunaton [force, power] known (endured in much forbearance vessels of orges having been thoroughly completed toward destruction) and did so in order that He might display the wealth of His glory upon vessels of compassion, which He prepared in advance for glory (whom He also called; us), not only emergent from Jews; conversely, also emergent from the ethnon [races, non-Jews, Gentiles].

1st Thessalonians 4: Finally, then, Brothers, we request of you and parakaloumen [invite, exhort] you in the Kurios Jesus, even as you received from us how it is necessary to walk and to please Theos in order that you superabound the more. For you know what commands we gave to you via the Kurios Jesus. For this is the thelema of Theos, your purification: for you to abstain from porneia [whoring, incest, non-marital sexual intercourse]; for each one of you knows how to possess his own vessel [body] in hagiasmos [holiness, purity] and time [value, esteem]; not in passion of forbidden desire as the ethnoi not knowing Theos.

1st Thessalonians 5.16: Always rejoice! Continually proseuchesthe [humbly beg God, pray]! Eucharisteite [Gratefully give thanks] in all for this is the thelema of Theos (in the Christos Jesus) to you. Don’t quench the Hagios Pneuma! Don’t despise propheteia! [before tellers, prophets] Test everything; firmly hold the kalos [beautiful, virtuous]; keep back from every form of ponerou [hurtful].

Galatians 1.3: Charis [Graciousness] and peace to you from Father Theos and from our Kuriou Jesus the Christou (the One having given Himself over our hamartion [misses of the mark, goal; offenses, sins], however He might tear us out emergent from the present, poerou [hurtful] age down [according] to the thelema of our Theos and Father), Whose is the glory to the ages of the ages. Amen!

Romans 10: Brothers, truly my heart’s delight and my petition to Theos (over Israel) is toward soterian [rescue, safety, salvation]. For I testify to them that they have zelon [heat: zeal, ardor] to Theos; conversely, not down [according] to complete discernment. For being ignorant of the dikaiosunen [equity, justification, rightness] of Theos and seeking to establish their own dikaiosunen, they not submitted to the dikaiosune of Theos. For the Christos is the goal of The Law (toward dikaiosunen) to everyone pisteuonti [having faith]. For Moses graphei [wrote], “The man (doing dikaiosunen acts emergent from The Laws) shall live by them.”

LEVITICUS 18.5 [YHWH] “My mishpat [thelema] you shall do and My enactments you shall preserve [keep], to walk in them. I AM YHWH! your Elohiym [The Trinity]. You shall preserve My enactments and My mishpat which, if a man shall do them, he shall live by [via] them.”

Romans 12: Accordingly, Brothers, I encourage you via the pity of Theos to present your somata [bodies] a living and hagian [holy, sacred, consecrated] sacrifice (fully acceptable to Theos) which is your reasonable service of worship. Not be conformed to this age; conversely, be transformed by the renovation of your nous [intellect, mind, understanding] into your testing what is the good, fully agreeable and complete thelema of Theos.

Luke 11: And it was caused to be in His being in a certain place proseuchomenon [humbly begging God, praying], as He stopped, one of His matheton [learners, pupils, disciples] said to Him, “Kurie! teach us to proseuchesthai, just as John bar Zacharias taught his mathetas.” Now, He said to them, “Whenever you proseuchesthe, say:

Our Father, the One in the Ouranois! [Heaven], make Your Name hagiastheto! [holy, sacred, consecrated], make Your Kingdom come. Cause Your thelema to be as in Ourano, so also upon the earth. Give us down to day by day our needed bread. And send forth [forgive] us our hamartias, for we ourselves also send forth all indebted to us. And not carry us into testing; conversely, rescue us from the ponerou [hurtful one].”

Lesson 1 Amplified -- PISTIS

PISTIS

American: reliance upon, faith

Hebrew: emuwnah/emunah

Most existing English translations of the New Testament use “believe” in translating this Koine Greek word. Believing, that Jesus is the Christ, the Only-begotten Son of God, isn’t enough for you to be safe or to have salvation; meaning you will enter Heaven when you die.

 New American Standard Bible:

James 2.19: “You believe that there is one God. You do well; the demons also believe, and shudder.”

Clearly if the demons believe, our believing isn’t enough. In American and Koine Greek, here is the most often presented verse concerning salvation:

Almost Greek: (Words in italics are translator’s additions.)

John 3:16: For Theos [Father God] so greatly egapesen [unconditionally loved] the kosmos [universe, world, cosmos], so (also) He even gave His Only-begotten Son, in order that anyone pisteuon [having faith] into Him shouldn’t perish, but should have eternal life.

Now to restate for clarification: If you forget or count as worthless everything you have ever done to deserve salvation and only put your faith in Jesus’ sufferings and death on your behalf, as your guarantee of salvation, you are already safe and will be in Heaven after your body dies.

PISTOS

American: trustworthy, faithful

Hebrew: aman

PISTEUO

American: to put one’s reliance upon, to have faith in

Hebrew: awman

American: foster firmness, render faithful

1st Thessalonians 4.13: I don’t want you to be ignorant with respect to those sleeping [having passed on] lest you grieve as also the rest do, not having elpis [expectation, hope]. For if we pisteuo that Jesus died and stood up again, so Theos will also bring with Him [Jesus] those who have been put to sleep via Jesus. For this we say to you in a logos of the Kurios [Lord, Master], that we (remaining living until the coming of the Kurios) not may in no way go ahead of those having been put to sleep because the Kurios Himself will descend from the ouranos [sky] in a rallying cry in the phone [sound] of an archaggelos [chief messenger, chief angel] and with a trumpet of Theos. And the dead in the Christos will stand up again, first, then the living will be caught up together with them (in the cloudiness) to a meeting of the Kurios in the air. And so, we will always be with the Kurios. So also comfort one another with these logoi.

Romans 1.16: For I am not ashamed of the euaggelion [good news, gospel, evangel] of the Christou for it is the dunamis [force, power] of Theos to soterian [rescue, safety, salvation] to the whole population pisteuonti [having faith]; first to the Jew and also to the Greek [everyone else]. For in it, the dikaiosune [justification, rightness] of Theos is uncovered (emergent from pisteos to pistin) just as gegraptai [has been written], “The dikaios shall live by pisteos.

HABAKUK 2.4: “The tsaddiyq [dikaios] shall live by his emunah [pistis].”

Romans 10.8: But what says it? “The rhema [word from God] is near you (in your mouth and in your heart).” That is the rhema of pisteos (which we kerussomen [proclaim, herald]), that if you acknowledge [covenant] in your mouth the Kurion Jesus and pisteuses [have faith] in your heart that Theos awakened Him emergent from dead, you sothese [will be saved]. For with the heart one holds pisteuetai toward dikaiosunen and with the mouth one acknowledges toward soterian. For the Graphe [Scripture, part of Old Testament] says, “Everyone pisteuon upon Him won’t be shamed down,” for there isn’t a distinction for the same Kurios of all of mankind (both of Jew and of Greek); wealth to all of those appealing to Him for “Everyone (whoever invokes the name [authority] of the Kuriou) sothesetai [will be safe; saved].”

Romans 13.11: And do this (knowing the time), that it is already the hour for you to awaken emergent from sleep. For soteria is now nearer to us than when we first episteussamen [had faith]. The night is well along and the day approaches. Accordingly, let us put away the works of shadiness and let us clothe ourselves with the implements of the light. Even as in the day, let us properly walk; not in carousal and intoxication; not in sexual promiscuity or licentiousness; not in quarreling and zelo [heat, jealousy, envy, malice], conversely, put on [clothe yourselves with] the Kurion Jesus the Christon and don’t make provisions into lusts of the flesh.
