HOLY GHOST
Koine Greek: Hagios Pneuma
Hebrew Aramaic: Qodesh Ruwach
Sometimes referred to as the third Person of the Trinity, the Holy Spirit is the “earnest” of one’s inhabiting the Kingdom of God.
WEBSTER’S NEW WORLD DICTIONARY of the American Language defines
“earnest” (as a noun):
“1. Money given as part
payment and pledge in binding a bargain: in full earnest money.
2. Something given or
done as an indication or assurance of what is to come: token, pledge.
Almost Greek: [Words in italics are translator’s additions.]
Acts 2. Now, in the fulfilling of the Day of Pentekostes [Hebrew Feast of Pentecost], they were all unanimous at the same place. Unexpectedly emergent from the ouranou [sky, heavens] was an echos [loud noise], just as borne of a violent wind, and filled up the whole dwelling where they were sitting. Themselves [They] stared wide-eyed at thoroughly partitioned tongues as of fire. It also sat upon each one of them and they were all filled of the Hagios Pneuma and began to utter words in different glossais [tongues, languages], just as the Pneuma gave to them to enunciate.
2.5: Now, there were Jews residing in Jerusalem, pious [devout] men from every ethnous [nation, race] of those under the ouranon. Now, these phones [sounds, tones, noises, voices] being generated, the populace assembled and were confused because each one heard them speaking his own dialekto [language, dialect]. Now, all were amazed and marveled, saying to one another,
"LO! aren’t all these speaking Galileans? and how hear we each our own dialekto in which we were born: Parthians, Medes, Elamites and those inhabiting Mesopotamia, both Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia, both Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the regions of Libya over against Cyrene and alien-resident Romans; both Jews and proselutoi [non-Jewish converts to Judaism], Cretans, and Arabians. We hear them (in our own glossais) articulating the magnificence of Theos.”
And they were all astounded and were thoroughly disconcerted, one to another posing the question,
“What do you suppose this to be?”
Galatians 3:. O foolish Galatians! who bewitched you not to be convinced of the truth, to whom Jesus the Christos [Anointed One, Messiah, Christ] was previously written; crucified before your very eyes? Only this do I want to learn from you, did you receive the Hagios Pneuma emergent from working law or of pistis [faith into, reliance upon] emergent from hearing? Are you so foolish, having begun in the Hagios Pneuma, do you now finish in the flesh? Vainly suffered you so much (if indeed vainly)? Is it emergent from working law or of pistis emergent from hearing that He is fully supplying the Hagios Pneuma to you and active in you in dunameis [forces, powers, or works of power]?
Galatians 4.3: When we were infants, we were being enslaved under the system of the kosmos [universe, world, cosmos] but when the period of time was fulfilled, Theos sent forth His Son being caused to come into being emergent from gunaikos [woman]; being caused to come into being under The Law [Pentateuch, Books of Moses, 1st five books of the Old Testament], in order that He might redeem those under The Law; in order that we might receive adoption as sons. Now, you are sons. Now, because you are sons, Theos sent forth the Hagios Pneuma of His Son into your hearts, krazlon [cawing as a raven, shrieking, screaming, crying out] “Abba [in Chaldee; “Daddy” in American] Father”. So, you are also no longer a slave, conversely, a son and if a son also an heir of Theos via the Christou.
1st Corinthians 2.10: But to us, Theos revealed the mysteries via His Hagios Pneuma for the Hagios Pneuma searches all, even the profundity of Theos. For whom (in men) knows the thoughts of a man except the pneuma [wind, breath, spirit] of the man which is in him? So also, the thoughts of Theos not even one being has known except the Hagios Pneuma of Theos. Now, we have not received the pneuma of the kosmou; conversely, we have received the Hagios Pneuma Who is emergent from Theos in order that we may know the truths gratuitously given to us by Theos. These words I also speak, not in wisdom logoi [words] taught of man, conversely, in words taught of the Hagios Pneuma, comparing the spiritual thoughts with the spiritual words. A natural man not receives the truths of the Hagios Pneuma of Theos for they are foolishness to him, and he is unable to know them because they are spiritually discerned. The spiritual One in fact discerns all but He is discerned by not even one person. For who knew the mind of the Kuriou [Lord, Master]? Who will teach Him?
ISAIAH 40.13: Who has meted out the Qodesh [Hagios] Ruwach [Pneuma] of YHWH? or a man His counsel taught Him?
1st Corinthians 3.16: Don’t you know that you are a temple of Theos and the Hagios Pneuma of Theos dwells in you? If anyone shrivels the temple of Theos, Theos will shrivel him. For the temple of Theos (whom you are) is hagios.
1st Corinthians 6.17: But he being joined to the Kurio is in pneuma with Him. Flee porneian [depravity]! Every other hamartema [miss of the mark or goal; error, offense, sin] that a man may do is outside the somatos [body] of the man but he doing porneuon [whoring, incest, non-marital sexual intercourse] commits hamartanei into his own soma. Or not know you that your soma is a sanctuary of the Hagios Pneuma (Who is in you)? Whom also you have from Theos, and you aren’t your own selves for you were bought for a price. Then esteem as glorious, Theos, in your somati and in your pneumati, which same are His.
1st Corinthians 12.4: There are varieties of charismaton [gifts, endowments, faculties] but the selfsame Hagios Pneuma. There are varieties of service, yet the selfsame Kurios. There are varieties of effects, and the selfsame Theos is active in the whole of existence -- in all. To each one is given the exhibition of the Hagios Pneuma to bear together [for the common good]. For via the Hagios Pneuma, one is given a logos of wisdom; to another, a logos of knowledge (down from the selfsame Hagios Pneuma); to another, pistis (by the selfsame Hagios Pneuma); to another, charismata [gifts, endowments, faculties, deliverances] of healing (by the selfsame Hagios Pneuma); to another, effect of dunameon [force, power, power works]; to another, propheteia [before telling, speaking under inspiration, prophesying]; to another, discerning of pneumaton [spirits]; to another, kin [families] of glossai [tongues, languages]; to another, translation of glossai. In all of these, One and the same Hagios Pneuma is active, separately apportioning to each as He [Father] bouletan [wills, resolves, intends].
2nd Corinthians 1.20: For as many as are the kerugma [proclamations] of Theos, in Him is the “Yes” and in Him is the “Amen” [firm, sure, so be it] toward glory to Theos via us. But He stabilizing us (with us in the Christon and chrio [anointing, consecrating] us) is Theos, He having sealed [stamped, marked] us and having given the arrhabon [pledge, earnest, down payment] of the Hagios Pneuma in our hearts.
2nd Corinthians 5: For we [I] know that if our [my] earthly, temporary residence is disintegrated, we [I] have an architecture emergent from Theos in the Ouranois [Heavens]; an eternal, not-manufactured residence. For in this earthly residence, we are [I am] indeed under stress, yearning to don our [my] residence emergent from Ouranou; if indeed we [I] shall be found clothed in a garment (not naked). For indeed being in our [my] temporary residence, we are [I am] under stress (overburdened), determined not to be stripped, conversely, to be clothed in order that the mortal may be swallowed down by life. Now, Theos (He having fully worked in us [me] to this same thing [goal]), He is also giving to us [me] the arrhabona [pledge, earnest, down payment] of the Hagios Pneuma.
Romans 8.12: Accordingly, brothers, we aren’t debtors to the flesh to live down to flesh. For if you live down to flesh, you are about to die off but if disposed to the Hagios Pneuma, you kill the practices of the somatos [body], you will live. For as many as are led by the Hagios Pneuma of Theos, these are the sons and daughters of Theos. For you not received a pneuma of slavery toward fear again, conversely, you received a Hagios Pneuma of adoption in Whom we shout, “Abba” [in Hebrew; “Daddy” in American], “Pater” [in Greek,“Father” in American]! The Hagios Pneuma Himself jointly testifies with our pneumati that we are children of Theos. Now, if children, also heirs, indeed heirs of Theos and co-heirs with the Christou; if perhaps we suffer together in order that we may be glorified together.
Romans 8.26: In the same way, the Hagios Pneuma also joins in to help overcome our feebleness. For we not precisely know what we make proseuxometha [humble begging to God, prayers] as is necessary, conversely, the Hagios Pneuma Himself intercedes on our behalf with ineffable sighs. But He searching the hearts knows the bent [inclination] of the Hagios Pneuma because He entreats over hagion [holy ones, sacred ones, consecrated ones; saints] down to the decision of Theos.
Acts 2.36: “Accordingly,
surely let all the House of Israel know that Theos made Him both Kurion [Lord,
Master] and Christon [Anointed One, Messiah, Christ]; this Jesus
Whom you impaled on a stake.”
And having heard, they were thoroughly pierced to the
kardia [heart, core] and spoke toward Rock and the remaining apostolous,
“What may we do? men! brothers!”
And Rock spoke toward them,
“Metanoesate [think differently, turnabout 180 degrees, repent] and baptistheto [be baptized] (each of you) upon the name [authority] of Jesus the Christou into freedom from hamartioi and you will receive the gift of the Hagios Pneuma. For the epaggelia [announcement, proclamation, promise] is to you and to your children; also, to all those to [at] a distance, as many as may call toward themselves, ‘The Kurios our Theos!’”
Ephesians 1.3: Eulogetos [Fine spoken of, Commended, Blest, Praised] be the Theos and Father of our Kuriou Jesus, the Christou, Who blest us with all spiritual eulogesas [blessing] above the sky [in Heaven], in Jesus, the Christo, as He selected us before the founding of the kosmou to be hagious and unblemished before Him. He was predestining us (in agape) to adoption via Jesus, the Christou, to Himself down [according] to His good pleasure and thelematos [determination, choice decision, decree], to the praise of His glory and charitos [graciousness] with which He favored us in the Egapemeno [Beloved] in Whom we have redemption via Jesus’ blood; aphesin [forgiveness] of paraptomaton [side slips, lapses, deviations] down to the riches of the Father’s charitos. Which graciousness He caused to abound to us in all wisdom and intelligence, making known to us the musterion [secrets, mysteries] of His thelematos down to His good pleasure, which Father proposed (in Himself) for administration of the fullness of times, to head up all the ouranois [skies, heavens] and the earth in the Christo. In Him [Jesus], we have been selected to be an inheritance, being predestined down to the purpose of the Father, all working down to His boulen [will, resolve, intention]; His thelematos [determination, choice decision, decree], for us to be His praise and glory, those having previously trusted in the Christo. In Him [Jesus], you were also hearing the logon of truth, the euaggelion [good news, gospel, evangel] of your soterias [rescue, safety; salvation] and in Whom you pisteusantes [were also having reliance upon or faith into]. You were sealed up with the epaggelias [announced, proclaimed, promised] Hagios Pneuma, Who is the arrhabona of our inheritance until the redemption of the possession to Jesus’ praise and glory.
Jude 17: But you, agapetoi, remember the proeiremeon [already saying, predictive] rhematon [utterances] of the apostolon of our Kuriou Jesus, the Christou, because they told you that in the final time there will be scoffers walking down to their lusts -- the impious. These are instinctive, they separating themselves, not having the Hagios Pneuma. But you, agapetoi, building upon your most hagiotate pistei, proseuchomenoi [humbly beg God, pray] in the Hagios Pneuma. Guard yourselves in the agape of Theos, awaiting the compassion of our Kuriou Jesus, the Christou, into eternal life. And (in fact) have compassion upon some thoroughly separating themselves but sozete [make safe, save] others, in fear snatching them emergent from the fire, also detesting the from-the-flesh-stained garment.
